This role is responsible for leading and advising on a range of complex legal matters pertaining to: (i) talent and influencer contracting; (ii) media buying (with an emphasis on digital media); (iii) experiential marketing, social media marketing, influencer marketing, content marketing, real-time marketing, multicultural marketing, advertising (including native advertising), search engine marketing, and cause marketing; (iv) marketing claims and offer terms; (v) publishing (digital and print); (vi) press materials; (vii) sweepstakes and contests; and (viii) commercial co-ventures.

Here’s just some of what you’ll do in this role:
• Draft, review, and negotiate complex talent and influencer contracts with sophisticated counterparties.
• Develop media buying terms and effectively collaborate with media agencies to draft, review, and negotiate contracts with publishers and platforms.
• Review advertising and marketing claims (including disclosures), offer terms, and associated materials; develop guidelines for such advertising and marketing, including social media posts, use of emojis, images, and other third-party content.
• Accurately and efficiently identify and classify risks (probability and impact) and support business colleagues to mitigate and manage those risks.
• Develop and maintain as current a suite of contract templates for use by legal and business colleagues, including releases.
• Communicate complex legal concepts and risks in a clear and concise manner while identifying innovative solutions to challenges in a collaborative solutions-oriented manner.
• Develop strong relationships of trust; generate buy-in (internal and external to American Express) on issues of importance to achieve enterprise objectives.
• Leverage well-developed business acumen and a deep understanding of media, advertising, marketing, and brand management to advise business colleagues on initiatives, transactions, and challenges.
• Collaborate with colleagues across the enterprise (at various levels of seniority) to receive and provide subject matter expertise relevant to the role.
• Manage competing priorities and aggressive timelines/deadlines; be responsive and provide prompt support.

Minimum Qualifications:
• Both a bachelor’s degree and Juris Doctor
• Qualified to practice law in the State of New York, Florida, or equivalent
• 8+ years of relevant in-house and/or law firm experience

Preferred Qualifications:
• Strong transactional experience effectively draft, review, and negotiate talent, influencer, media buying, and event sponsorship contracts, releases, sweepstakes and contest rules, event and ticketing terms and disclosures.
• Honed analytical and problem-solving skills and ability to identify and classify risk accurately and efficiently.
• Team-oriented, self-starter, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to identify the important from the urgent and to accurately prioritize tasks and get things done timely.
• Ability to generate innovative solutions to challenges.
• Ability to communicate complex issues clearly and persuasively.
• Ability to build relationships and partner with others to drive results.
• Capacity to be agile and pivot appropriately when presented with new information or evolving circumstances.
• Ability to identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and productivity.

Salary Range: $170,000.00 to $255,000.00 annually + bonus + equity (if applicable) + benefits
