GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
Under general supervision, the Patent Agent in the Intellectual Property Practice Group (“IPPG”) draws on knowledge of life science or engineering, patent prosecution, and US and foreign patent laws to prepare, file and prosecute patent applications before the US Patent and Trademark Office (“USPTO”). This position works closely with the Patent practice group attorneys and assumes significant client responsibilities while providing high quality legal services to domestic and foreign clients.
The Patent Agent is supervised by an Intellectual Property Practice Group Partner or Manager of Patent Support Services, but will have daily contact with, and will receive guidance from, all of the partners in the practice group for whom this individual provides support.

We provide a range of Intellectual Property services, including patent preparation and prosecution; trademark and copyright counseling and portfolio management; post-grant and other administrative proceedings before the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO); licensing, technology transfer and other transactions; and addressing Intellectual Properties issues in corporate transactions. One of the major focuses of our San Francisco office is patent prosecution for the life sciences industry.

The ideal candidate will have an with an educational background and/or work experience in optics. A PhD would be preferred but not required. Further, candidates must possess excellent academic credentials and strong research, writing, communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. California bar membership is required for any associate candidates and Patent bar membership is strongly preferred.
