Job Description

The judiciary is increasingly playing a dominant role in a divided government, staking out a spot at the center of US politics while setting policy and curbing actions by the executive.

The Hill is looking for an energetic, thoughtful reporter to join our courts team and grow our audience's understanding of the judiciary.

About the Role

The position requires a number

or talents, most importantly the ability to quickly dissect complex legal-speak into news prose - all through the prism of politics.

This job will focus on big political cases moving through the court system, including the investigations surrounding former President Trump. It will also incorporate other big legal cases in state and federal courts, and will assist in our coverage of the Supreme Court.

It requires the ability to juggle breaking news stories that beat the competition; explainers that help a broad, national audience understand why a court decision is important; and enterprise stories that illuminate the personalities and issues at the center of the judiciary.

Skills and Qualifications

This position requires a t least three years of experience in a newsroom.

Law degrees are helpful but not required.
