Who Are We Looking For

We are looking for a Paralegal I to join us at NIKE’s World Headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon, as a member of the NIKE Design Patent Team. To be successful, you must demonstrate initiative and possess excellent judgment and reasoning. You must also have outstanding communication, attention to detail, and organizational skills. The best NIKE Paralegals are flexible multitaskers with an ability to prioritize tasks and solve problems with a high degree of independence.

What You Will Work On

You will be responsible for handling a variety of tasks to support the Design Patent Team. Your primary responsibilities will be paralegal duties, which will include: scheduling and attending meetings with inventors to obtain signatures on design patent-related documents; opening, updating, and maintaining design patent records in our patent management system; setting up accounts in our invoice management system and reviewing and processing invoices from outside counsel; maintaining ongoing reports and databases; and archiving documents. In addition, a portion of your time will be spent assisting with administrative tasks such as: preparing correspondence and presentations; producing, editing and reformatting documents; managing calendars; coordinating complex meetings and logistics; scheduling and managing travel; and preparing expense reports. You will also help the Team as needed with process improvement projects. In this Paralegal role you will need to respond tactfully and promptly to inquiries and issues within your scope of established authority, and responsibly and carefully handle confidential information.

Who You Will Work With

You will report to the Assistant General Counsel, Design Patents, and you will work closely with your teammates on the Design Patent Team. This role also engages regularly with cross-functional teammates, outside counsel, and various business groups and you will encounter colleagues with a variety of communication styles and needs. The best NIKE Paralegals are confident in their interactions with colleagues, resourceful in the face of ambiguity, and focused on finding solutions.

What You Bring To Nike
• Bachelors degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
• 1+ years of paralegal experience in a law firm and/or corporate law department OR significant legal assistant experience with an interest in growing into a paralegal role
• Must have strong computer and design skills (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Keynote, etc.) and ability to navigate electronic storage programs and new technology
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, demonstrated ability to communicate with colleagues at all levels of experience
• High degree of integrity and ability to maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information and use discretion in dissemination of information
• Bias for action, ability to anticipate needs and take initiative in seeing tasks to completion
• Strong ability to problem-solve, think through scenarios, and identify the best course of action
• Excellent judgment and organizational skills, with a proven ability to prioritize and lead multiple projects and complete tasks accurately, on schedule, and with minimal supervision
• Demonstrated maturity, and strong attention to detail
• Strong teammate and ability to work cross-functionally in a complex organizational structure
• Flexibility and willingness to take on new tasks in new or unfamiliar areas
• Must be approachable with a positive attitude
• Oregon Notary Public or willingness to become one
• Experience managing a budget is a plus
• Previous NIKE work experience, especially with Zoom and NIKE Legal tools (e.g., Contract Central, Legal Tracker, Anaqua), is a plus
• Experience with electronic document management systems is a plus (e.g., Adobesign and Box)
• Experience with Anaqua or other IP Management system is a plus
• Experience with Legal Tracker or other invoice management system is a plus

Must be willing to relocate to the Portland, Oregon area.
