Our greatest asset has been and will continue to be our people. We are looking for an experienced and motivated individual to fill the position of Sr Counsel Environmental within our Legal team based at 14555 Dallas Parkway in Dallas, Texas. The ideal candidate should be able to:
• Manage legal aspects of OXY environmental investigation, remediation and O&M matters, some individually, some with other in-house assistance and some with outside counsel.
• Analyze and handle all aspects of CERCLA and RCRA cost recovery and contribution actions, as well as contractual indemnity matters.
• Analyze and optimize existing contractual and regulatory remedial obligations.
• Skillfully negotiate and draft a wide range of agreements.
• Communicate effectively with technical consultants, community partners, senior management and co-workers.
• Work independently, while also thriving in a team-based environment; know when to seek assistance.
• Provide environmental support to Glenn Springs Holdings (GSH) General Counsel and OXY Litigation Deputy General Counsel.
• Handle legal aspects of PRP Group sites, including investigation of OXY corporate and operational history and potential liability; investigate other PRP involvement; negotiate and manage PRP Group activities, including other PRP liability, settlements and agency agreements and orders; work with Glenn Springs technical team on site investigations and remedies.
• Provide indemnity and insurance analysis on a variety of potential environmental liabilities and contracts.
• Review contracts and purchase orders to support projects.
• Assist with property access, due diligence, acquisition and divestiture.
• Liaise with OXY on Natural Resource Damage issues.
• Liaise with OXY on environmental bankruptcy issues.
Required Qualifications:
• Juris Doctor degree from an accredited U.S. law school
• 15+ years of relevant experience practicing in a law firm, as in-house environmental counsel for an oil and gas or other industrial company, and/or in a federal or state environmental agency
• Manage OXY environmental matters, some individually, some with other in house assistance and some with outside counsel.
