Position Summary

Reed Smith is building a new Resource Management team across the US. This is a people partnering role that will drive meaningful and lasting change in the way our legal teams support and develop their talent.

As a Resource Manager you will identify and support opportunities to make a difference to the working lives of our attorneys and Partners. We’re passionate about what we do. Resource Management is empowered to support the development of individual careers, help Partners improve team performance, and critically provide proactive guidance around diversity of work allocation.

Resource Managers will work closely with the teams they support, managing talent to support these core business agendas. You will drive the uptake of resourcing tools and processes that equip legal teams in support of retention and development of their people.

Essential Functions
• Support the development of the resource management methodology, processes and procedures to successfully implement the resource management throughout the firm.
• Drive the implementation and roll out of the technology solution for resource and work allocation. Partner with key stakeholders across the firm and externally to ensure successful delivery and adoption.
• Proactive liaison with Practice Group Leaders, staff partners, practice group partners, directors and managers to understand client requirements and the wider needs of the business, to facilitate effective resourcing decisions.
• Proactive liaison and support for associates, and other fee earners, to facilitate the balancing of workloads and align to career aspirations and interests.
• In conjunction with the Resource Management Director, assess and plan future resource requirements based on projected workflows, impact of pipeline and levels of attrition, ensuring headcount and utilization levels are in line with budget
Requirements

Condition Of Employment

Education: BA or BS undergraduate degree.

Experience: Minimum of 2/3 years of experience in Resource Management, Workforce Planning and/or Resource Utilization preferable. Will consider strong backgrounds in legal support, paralegal, recruitment or business administration. Experience of working within a law firm, legal department or large professional services firm is preferred. Experience of relationship management with senior level stakeholders. Preferred systems experience - 3E, Intapp, Excel.

Change orientated. You will be comfortable taking ownership for change in your business area and have experience in influencing and supporting your stakeholders throughout a change journey which is centered on behavioral and cultural change.

Determined. Ability to work under pressure, engage senior stakeholders with credibility and confidence. Manage complex, cross practice/industry groups and jurisdictional mandates. Working specifically to improve the allocation of work across our teams to support career development, diversity and inclusion and retention of our staff.
