Job Description

The University of Houston Law Center (UHLC) invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position to begin with the academic year 2022-23.

Applicants for the position must hold a J.D. degree (or the equivalent) and should demonstrate the potential for success as scholars, teachers, and future members of the UH and the Law Center’s broader community.

The primary teaching focus for this position is to cover 1L contracts, although candidates with an interest in teaching 1L criminal law may be considered. Upper level course teaching options are flexible. Willingness to teach elsewhere in the Law Center curriculum, including other 1L courses or courses covered on the Uniform Bar Exam (UBE), is also a positive factor.

The University of Houston Law Center boasts an accomplished and collegial faculty, of which over 20 are members of the American Law Institute. The Law Center features top-ranked centers of excellence in health law, intellectual property law, environmental law, and tax law. With almost 40% of the students from underrepresented backgrounds, 55% women students, and almost 80% of students being first generation law school students, the Law Center has one of the most diverse student bodies in the country and a diverse faculty. And by Fall 2022, the Law Center will occupy a brand-new, world class facility designed by award-winning architects.

Further information about the Law Center and its programs is available at: http://www.law.uh.edu and http://www.law.uh.edu/ipil/.

The University of Houston Law Center is seeking outstanding candidates who will bring greater diversity to the faculty, including women, racial and ethnic minorities, and members of other underrepresented groups in the legal profession.

An attorney appointed to the position must, at a minimum, hold a J.D. degree from an ABA-accredited law school. The University of Houston is responsive to the needs of dual career couples.

The University of Houston is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action institution. Minorities, women, veterans, and persons with disabilities are encouraged to apply.

Notes to Applicant: Official transcripts are required for a faculty appointment and will be requested of an appointee. All positions at the University of Houston are security sensitive and will require a criminal history check.

Qualifications:
J.D. degree or equivalent.
