The Legal Review Team ("LRT"), a division within the Legal Department, seeks an experienced and skilled paralegal to join a legal team responsible for overseeing a group of firms (outside counsel) retained to provide consumer default litigation services to the Bank . The team conducts periodic reviews of outside counsel (occasionally in conjunction with Operations, Technology, Compliance and/or Audit teams) to, among other things, evaluate the quality of legal services provided by outside counsel and supports the Bank in managing the relationship with this group of firms.
The paralegal will work with in-house counsel and outside law firms to manage ongoing issues related to onsite reviews and will design and implement processes and procedures to further the Bank's law firm oversight program and control agenda. The position will also include managing escalations related to the day-to-day engagement responsibilities of the outside law firms, and handling regulatory and other exam-related inquiries related to the oversight of the outside law firms handling consumer default litigation. It is an exciting opportunity to provide support within JPMC as a member of a legal team that will continue to evolve.
The position requires significant interaction with the attorneys and staff within this group of law firms in all 50 states. This position may also require travel in connection with conducting reviews onsite.
The position will be located in Plano, Texas.

Working knowledge of FDCPA, TCPA, SCRA, UDAAP and FCRA, and related debt collection laws
Litigation and investigative skills
Experience with proofs of claim (bankruptcy and probate)
Knowledge of collaboration tools like SharePoint

- Contributing to the oversight of default law firms through the periodic review of matters handled by the firms
- Reviewing, identifying, analyzing law firm policies and procedures to ensure compliance with JPMC requirements
- Supporting the drafting of Attorney Alerts designed to establish parameters and expectations of law firms on an array of topics
- Researching, monitoring and tracking escalated issues through final resolution
- Reviewing, analyzing, and investigating claims of law firm nonfeasance and misfeasance as it relates to the handling of consumer default and collection matters
- Performing legal research on a variety of issues relating to collections litigation and bankruptcy
- Working collaboratively with business partners and Legal Department colleagues in determining findings of law firm fault and developing resolution strategies
- Drafting correspondence to internal and external parties
- Providing support to special projects across the Firm's lines of business
Requirements / Qualifications
3 + years of paralegal experience with a law firm or equivalent experience with an in-house legal department, preferably in the financial services industry
Working knowledge of legal research platforms (Westlaw preferred)
Strong PC skills (knowledge of MS Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint)
Excellent organizational skills
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact effectively with peers, attorneys and business colleagues
Tact and good judgment in handling confidential information
Ability to interact effectively and professionally at all levels, including with senior management
Unwavering sense of honesty and ethics
A background in default servicing and/or compliance in the financial services industry.
Experience navigating client expectations and requirements at a law firm, or working in an in-house department responsible for attorney oversite and management.
