The Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency is looking for a detail-oriented individual for our Office of Victim Services, Victims Compensation Assistance Program to assist in the processing and approval/disapproval of compensation claims.

The PCCD's mission is to enhance the quality, coordination and planning within the criminal and juvenile justice systems, to facilitate the delivery of services to victims of crime, and to increase the safety of our communities.

This Criminal Justice Systems Specialist 1 is responsible for claims processing, writing reports and determinations on claims, and rendering a decision based on a preponderance of evidence. You will be a member of the Claims Review Team (CRT) which consists of Office Director, Deputy Director, VCAP Manager, Legal Counsel, Claims Review Officer Supervisor, Claims Processing Coordinator, and Direct Victims' Services Coordinator. You will be responsible for writing reconsiderations, reaffirmations and denials based on documentation from law enforcement and others as needed to effectuate decisions on claims. You will be responsible for the initial review and determination of all contribution cases prior to review by the Legal Counsel and assist claim specialists, as needed, in the review of loss of support on claims to ensure accuracy.

Full-time employment
Work hours: 8:00 am - 4:30 pm Monday - Friday with a one hour lunch or 8:30 am - 4:30 pm with a half hour lunch
Travel on short notice, both in and out of state, may be required
Free on street parking available
You will have the opportunity to work from home (telework) up to 3 days a week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg.

Requirements / Qualifications

  • Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: Successful completion of the commonwealth’s Criminal Justice System Specialist Trainee program; OR one year of professional experience in criminal or juvenile justice, law enforcement, or victim services, and a bachelor’s degree in the social or behavioral sciences, criminal justice, law enforcement, or a related field; OR an equivalent combination of experience and training.
