Job Description

This position will be responsible for responding to all legal inquiries, specifically Freedom of Information Act requests that filter through the Department of Communications. This position will also act as a liaison between the Department of Communications and the Department of Human Resources for various assignments.

QUALIFICATIONS: Law student or Law graduate

Salary Range: Range 3 - Support Staff Daily Salary Schedule (.625 FTE) ($123.07/day - $192.85/day depending on relevant experience)

Length of Contract: 216 contract days

Job Responsibilities

  • Respond to subpoena requests from the Attorney General’s office and other legal entities within the state of Arkansas
  • Respond to all Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests; these requests primarily come from local media, journalists and occasionally individual Arkansas residents
  • Prepare written opinions and conducts independent research in regards to responding to all subpoena and FOIA inquiries and requests
  • Provide legal advice and assistance, when requested, to the Executive Director of Communication in order that the responsibilities of the office may be legally carried out
  • Prepare required reports and special reports as requested
  • Work with the Department of Human Resources to assist with personnel grievances and other matters as needed
  • Sustain familiarity with Google suite products (i.e. Google Drive, Google Docs, Google Sheets, etc.) and Adobe Acrobat and PDF readers
  • Maintain professional digital records-keeping in accordance with existing format
