Job Description

Position Purpose: Primary responsibilities include providing consulting services to Ascensus clients through Ascensus’ technical access service, providing in-house consulting, conducting seminars, technical research, analysis and special projects as assigned.

Job Responsibilities

  • Course Development
  • Design, write, and update internal or external training modules on ancillary laws
  • Disputes, Policies, Inquiries and Subpoenas
  • Draft formal responses to legal or other inquiries to attorneys, the IRS, DOL or other governmental agency
  • Draft template and customized correspondence and legal memorandum
  • Legal Research
  • Complete advanced legal research projects and present advanced legal research findings
  • Mentor associates to conduct retirement plan and legal research
  • Technical Writing
  • Write comprehensive findings and recommendations of advanced legal research projects (e.g., white paper)
  • Demonstrate advanced understanding of laws and regulations related to Health and Benefits, including but not limited to Consumer Directed Health accounts (FSAs, HRAs, HSAs), ACA, HIPAA, and COBRA.
  • Industry KnowlDemonstrate knowledge of the various business structures (e.g., sole proprietor partnerships, corporations, LLC, non-profit, stock attribution, foreign affiliates)edge
  • Demonstrate functional knowledge of associated regulatory agencies (e.g., IRS, DOL, HHS, etc.)
  • Demonstrate basic knowledge of state laws that apply to health and benefits (e.g., Insurance, benefits continuation)
  • Continuing Education
  • Obtain continuing education credits to maintain licensure in at least one jurisdiction
  • Work with corporate legal counsel to review and draft agreements and perform other corporate legal work as necessary (e.g., copyright, trademark)
  • Responsible for protecting, securing, and proper handling of all confidential data held by Ascensus to ensure against unauthorized access, improper transmission, and/or unapproved disclosure of information that could result in harm to Ascensus or our clients.

Requirements / Qualifications

  • JD from an accredited law school. Maintain an active license in at least one jurisdiction

  • Industry Experience

  • 7 years industry experience

  • Performance Review Ratings

  • Performance review ratings of exceeding expectations

  • Core Values & I-Client

  • Consistently display and model the Ascensus core values and I-Client philosophy

  • Prior Consultant Level Completion

  • Successfully demonstrate job responsibilities of Consultant 3

  • Prior Attorney Level Completion

  • Successfully demonstrate job responsibilities of Retirement Attorney
