We have an exciting opportunity open for a Corporate Counsel I based in Centennial, CO.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day legal counsel to clients on general corporate and compliance matters
  • Provide legal guidance and support for claims, litigation, disputes and related issues
  • Support development and implementation of a litigation and risk management strategy
  • Collaborate with internal clients to proactively mitigate risk
  • Advise internal clients on potential and pending disputes
  • Prepare risk and resolution assessments and advise internal clients accordingly
  • Engage and manage outside counsel when appropriate
  • Assist with preparation and management of litigation budgets
  • Support eDiscovery and legal hold processes
  • Counsel on employment related matters
  • Draft and negotiate contracts
  • Provide legal support for company insurance program, including advising on policy interpretations and risk transfer guidance
  • Provide legal guidance and support for land matters
  • Review, draft, and provide general legal counsel on corporate policies
  • Collaborate with legal team and clients to identify and implement process improvements
  • Build cross-functional relationships with team members
  • Obtain and maintain a solid knowledge of the company’s business

Requirements / Qualifications

  • JD from accredited law school

  • Licensed to practice law and in good standing in at least one state bar

  • Two to four years of experience in a law firm or corporate setting

  • Solid litigation, dispute resolution, and claims management experience is required

  • Experience real estate law and utility regulation is helpful, but not required.

  • Demonstrate a business-friendly approach to legal problem solving and being able to effectively counsel clients with concise, practical advice and creative solutions

  • Ability to influence value-added outcomes with clients utilizing legal expertise

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including an ability to interface effectively with all levels and keep stakeholders regularly and timely updated

  • Possess a strong desire to learn the business and new areas of law

  • Strong ability to function integrally as part of a geographically dispersed legal team

  • Able to quickly gain a rapport with business personnel to encourage proactive use of inhouse legal counsel

  • Able to work effectively and cooperatively with cross-functional colleagues in a geographically dispersed organization

  • Exercise sound judgment, with a business-oriented approach, in developing creative and effective solutions

  • A proven ability to manage multiple projects with an excellent ability to set priorities and manage expectations on deliverables and deadlines

  • Self-starter who is sharp, quick to pick up new concepts, and willing to dig in and become an “expert” as needs arise
