Job Purpose:
• Lead and manage the Regional Trade Law Office.
• Advise and monitor the America's Region, Group and Corporate Divisions on international trade law and compliance, customs, export controls, and sanctions, to ensure compliance with legal requirements and policies, and mitigate compliance risks.
• Support the implementation of standard procedures that address compliance requirements.
• Develop trade compliance strategies and policies for the Group and compliance metrics for the America's Region and the Corporate Divisions.
• Oversea investigations into non-compliance and violations of international trade law.
• Oversea the drafting, and lead on the submission, of voluntary disclosures to government and law enforcement authorities. Engage and instruct External Counsel where necessary.
• Support Global Trade Law Office colleagues on US extra-territorial trade controls and sanctions. Update and brief Divisional Export Control Officers on risks, requisite remedies and operational solutions relating to international trade law.
• Establish and maintain positive working relationships with government authorities in the America's Region and with regional multilateral organizations to proactively influence policy in the Group's interest.
• Monitor and report on new and emerging risks and develop/propose mitigations.
• Monitor and report on relevant new legal and regulatory developments and their importance/impact on the Group.
• Support the resolution of customer issues relating to trade compliance.
Your tasks:
• Define short to mid-term compliance strategy, frameworks and standards at a Regional level taking into account current/future business plans, exposure, risks, applicable laws and regulations
• Collaborate with top management on strategic planning activities and translate corporate compliance strategies into commercial reality by supporting operational plans, measures and budgets to achieve defined results
• Oversee, review and interpret new and pending laws and regulations that would potentially affect DPDHL's business practices
• Set priorities for the function and align its activities to support the achievement of business objectives without compromising on compliance standards, guidelines and rules
• Define and deploy programs, control systems, compliance metrics and tools to enhance compliance with DPDHL protocols and standards and with all applicable laws and regulations
• Introduce and steer innovation across the compliance function to increase effectiveness and efficiency of the function
• Ensure accurate and timely consolidation of information and compliance reporting detailing compliance cases and their management
• Provide binding responses to emerging questions and make binding ad-hoc decisions in response to compliance questions
• Confidentially process complaints and ensure solutions are in line with compliance guidelines
• Negotiate and influence business decisions with clients/customers and the definition of relevant terms and conditions in line with Group/Corporate Division standards and guidelines
• Represent DPDHL Group externally in compliance matters (e.g. public authorities, courts, etc.)
Your profile:
• J.D. of Law
• More than 8 years of directly applicable experience in the area of International Trade (Export Controls, Sanctions and Customs) at a company, preferably with an operational and/or logistics focus.
