This position is an In-house paralegal/paraprofessional in third party administrator law department supporting litigation, administering legal billing system, responding to subpoenas and record requests, filing agency licenses, and Secretary of State filings

As a Sr. Paralegal for Health Benefits, your key accountabilities and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

SUBPOENAS/GARNISHMENTS/LEVIES & LEGAL INQUIRIES
• Prepare response to subpoenas, garnishments, levies, and legal inquiries from Customer Service department. Verify all requests are valid, legally enforceable and HIPAA compliant and are completed within the required deadline. Assert objections and negotiate scope where necessary with the requesting party.

LITIGATION/PRE-LITIGATION
• Manage all litigation and pre-litigation as paralegal, and serve as primary support for Health Benefits' attorney

LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS
• File agency licenses and Secretary of State renewals

LEGAL BILLS
• Review legal bills, evaluate, and answer all billing inquiries and pay all appropriate invoices from outside counsel in legal invoice tracking software and invoice system.
• Administer legal invoice tracking software and ensure external attorney compliance with Health Benefit's billing guidelines.

INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY
• Manage intellectual property portfolio.

Responsibilities

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor's degree and paralegal certification from ABA approved program
• At least five (5) years prior experience working as a paralegal in a law firm/corporate legal department
• Ability to work with minimal supervision
• Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
• Experience using Pacer and WestlawNext or Lexis
• Proficient use of online resources
• Detail-oriented
• Flexibility to adapt to shifting priorities
• Ability to meet deadlines and handle multiple assignments concurrently
• Ability to interact effectively as a team player
• Prior experience with benefits litigation, general corporate law, and general group health coverage
• Strong research, analytical, written and interpersonal skills
• Strong time-management skills
• Demonstrated ability to interact and influence senior business leaders

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Knowledge and experience with intellectual property portfolio management, particularly trademarks
• Knowledge of group health and life insurance laws and regulations
• Knowledge of HIPAA privacy
