About the Position
The Vice President, Technology (VPT) serves as a member of the NILC Senior Leadership Team and advances the NILC mission by acting as a subject matter expert and strategic leader in technology operations including technology, data, and information security. Working closely with the Executive Vice President, Operations, other members of SLT, and interim leadership, the VPT plays a key role in building strong strategic and operational systems related to technology to build, sustain, and advance the organization in accordance with the strategic framework and NILC values. The VPT leads day-to-day technology operations including technology enablement, defining technology architecture and infrastructure, ensuring compliance, and managing vendor relationships. The VPT will act both as a strategic leader and hands-on executor in areas ranging from systems administration to employee IT to procurement. Additionally, the VPT collaborates with leaders across the organization to enhance and better integrate the right technology consistently across the organization.
The VPT will be a hand-on leader with a depth of technology, operational effectiveness, and business knowledge while also exhibiting a strong commitment to NILC's mission concentrates on the applied principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, justice, and belonging.
This role is not a member of the Bargaining Unit.
The Vice President, Technology will be responsible for providing leadership and driving success in the following key areas:
Specific Position Responsibilities
Forge collaborative relationships across functional areas to evaluate, create and implement a best in class technology vision and strategy that enables NILC to achieve its Strategic Plan and mission.
Function as a key member of the SLT and as an advisor, a strategic partner, and leader to ELT on information technology matters.
Define organizational needs, including security and compliance requirements, system infrastructure, and disaster recovery, and timelines for future system enhancements and implementation to support organizational growth across functional areas.
Develop and maintain procedures, standards, and policies to protect the privacy and integrity of data including compliance and training of regulations and security policies; develop contingency plans and manage security breaches.
Manage and oversee integration of software, tools, and applications across functional areas and implementation of improvements to the existing infrastructure.
Oversee and execute day-to-day IT infrastructure, strategy, structure, staffing, vendor management, and budgeting.
Develop and implement technology use trainings and provide technical consulting across functional areas.
Select and actively manage vendors and platforms for internal and external meetings, events and trainings hosted by NILC, determining and leading the identification and coordination of internal resource needs and best in class execution and presentation.
Identify and maximize opportunities for technology efficacy, efficiency, and innovation.
Communicate technology recommendations, risks, and plans to the Boards of Directors, Executive and Senior Leadership teams, staff, and other audiences.
May be a part of a larger cross functional project using the MOCHA framework/methodology
Supervisory Responsibilities
Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains staff.
Oversees the daily workflow of direct reports.
Acts as a coach and mentor including providing constructive and timely feedback to foster a collaborative environment that develops strengths, improves weaknesses, and encourages creative problem-solving.
Actively manages direct and indirect reports using applicable performance management software including documenting regular check-ins, goal progress, and any other relevant information in the system for performance and coaching purposes.
Handles discipline and termination of employees in accordance with organizational policy.
Directly manages employees and oversees entire Technology department, with possibility for additional staff
Manages outside consultants, third party administrators, and vendors.

Experience in structuring data systems to comply with security standards such as GDPR, HIPAA, etc.

Qualifications Required
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or other related field required
A minimum of 12 years of experience in Information Systems, IT, or IT service delivery, including at least 5 years of supervisory and management experience of an IT service delivery team.
Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing priorities, strategies, and circumstances.
Experience managing technology functions in a non-profit environment.
Experience developing technology strategies to make an organization more effective and more efficient.
Experience developing and implementing new technologies to support business processes, whether created in-house or procured off-the-shelf.
Experience building out Microsoft Office Suite and related products for an organization.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree or MBA in IT, information systems, computer science, or other related field a plus.
Nonprofit or social justice organization experience strongly preferred.

Work Environment
Location & Travel:
All staff are currently working remotely, and all travel is limited due to the COVID-19 PANDEMIC. Post pandemic, up to 10-20% of overnight interstate travel may be required; travel is typically quarterly to the NILC Washington, DC office or another location within the US for 3-5 nights.
Compensation:
NILC's compensation philosophy is to pay competitively in the nonprofit sector and ensure equity across the organization. Compensation for the role will depend on several factors including qualifications, skills, competencies, and experience.
NILC provides an incredible benefit package that includes employer-paid healthcare coverage (100% for employees and 75% for dependents), employer-supported dental and vision coverage, a 403(b)-retirement plan including an automatic contribution from NILC, paid parental leave, monthly cell phone and wellness stipends, pre-tax accounts for transit, health, and childcare benefits (FSA), and employer-paid short- and long-term disability and life insurance.
