General Summary of Purpose:

As our Senior Paralegal, you will be responsible for providing paralegal and administrative support to and assumes responsibility for significant projects delegated by the VP & General Counsel and other in house counsel using discretion and independent judgment, including legal research, managing caseload internally and with outside counsel, interviewing and providing substantive responses to internal clients, working with and maintaining confidential and attorney-client privileged information, and handling and directing communication, preparing responses to discovery requests and subpoenas, preparing legal memoranda, reports, and correspondence, handling liability and regulatory compliance claims and data and preparing legal documents, as well as undertaking special projects.

Essential Functions:
• Directly assists the General Counsel and other in-house counsel in both paralegal and administrative duties.
• Performs advanced paralegal duties to include the assembling of exhibits, coordinating, preparing and assembling of discovery responses and responses to subpoenas, handling of product data and the managing of product related claims, the managing of employment related claims, and the managing of other liability claims as directed by the General Counsel and other in-house counsel.
• Independently handles projects delegated by the General Counsel.
• Establishes work flow and priorities including the maintaining of databases in connection there with and supervises the use of supplemental clerical staff.
• Provides supervision to the payroll staff in the administration of employee garnishments to ensure accuracy and thorough understanding of the legal procedures.
• Provides guidance to Human Resources staff regarding hiring and termination of employees, guidance to ensure proper I-9 compliance; and guidance regarding employment authorizations, and student and work visas to ensure accuracy and legal compliance.
• Manages the application process for immigrant and non-immigrant visas and work authorizations, and acts as a liaison between outside counsel, Human Resources staff, department managers, executive management, and applicable employees.
• Prepares correspondences, reports and memoranda for the General Counsel and other in-house counsel.
• Maintains Corporate legal and product files.
• Researches and compiles information gathered through legal resources including computer research databases, such as Westlaw and Lexis, other online sources and other materials found in the Corporate Law Library.
• Assesses the status and orders supplies for the Law Department.
• Is entrusted with highly confidential, sensitive, proprietary and privileged information and maintains confidentiality.
• Updates and maintains materials in the Law Library.
• Maintains regular and predictable attendance.
• Operates as a facilitator and conduit of information, including information concerning employee morale, to the General Counsel.
• Adjusts and reprioritizes projects and maintains flexibility in schedules.
• Prepares and/or reviews local, state and federal forms and filing for regulatory compliance.
• Monitors state and federal legislation relating to the company's business.
• Processes and properly codes purchase orders and invoices for timely payment.
• Coordinates meetings with executive management staff.
• Must be able to attend face to face meetings on short or little advance notice.
• Work requires in-person collaboration among colleagues and contractors.
• Responds to internal and external callers or determines the appropriate person to handle the matter.
• Represents the Law Department to both internal and external community.
• Makes recommendations concerning the employment of new personnel.
• Sorts and distributes internal and external department mail.
• Works with outside counsel and outside counsel staff
• Performs other duties as directed or assigned by the General Counsel or other in-house counsel.
• Abide by all policies and procedures of Oriental Trading Company.

Here's what you need to join the fun:

Education
• Requires a High School Diploma and an Associates Degree with an emphasis in the legal field or graduation from an ABA approved paralegal program.
• Paralegal Certification is desired, or related equivalent experience.
• Minimum of 7 years in a legal environment, in a Paralegal or other supervisory role with an emphasis in litigation, employment, immigration, or intellectual property law.

Other Qualifications and Physical Requirements
• Minimum typing speed of 65 wpm
• Strong PC skills in the areas of word processing, spreadsheet, databases, and computer research
• High degree of organizational and planning skills
• Strong analytical skills
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Ability to effectively maintain a high degree of confidentiality on a daily basis
• High degree of attention to detail and accuracy
