Patent Paralegal at Microsoft

- Assist Microsoft patent attorneys on counseling of client groups to select the appropriate inventions to patent, determine appropriate filing timelines and manage filing strategies to achieve patent protection within budget expectations, including managing filing date deadlines, signature requirements, foreign filing licenses, and export controls.
- Partner with the patent attorneys to manage US and International Patent prosecution dockets.
- Develop and maintain key contacts to stay current on the organization’s structure and designated development areas.
- Develop an understanding of Patent Group procedures, including an understanding of engineering teams supported by various Patent Development Teams and related procedures managed by the Patent Operations team.
Requirements / Qualifications
Prior experience and general knowledge in the computer software technology field. Demonstrated ability to work independently with limited supervision, while interfacing with a variety of personalities across a large number of diverse internal groups, teams, divisions, and cultures.
Analytical problem solving, ability to deal with ambiguity and move forward based on solid assumptions and risk mitigation.
Confidence, interpersonal awareness, and ability to impact and influence others without direct authority.
Ability to work efficiently, meet demanding deadlines in a fast-paced environment, prioritize workflow and adjust to frequent workload fluctuations.
Strong organizational and project management skills, with a desire and ability to work with diverse teams.
Ability to learn new data collection systems quickly and escalate issues appropriately.
Excellent issues management skills, including ability to identify root causes, drive for resolution, and make improvements systematically
2+ years of demonstrated patent experience or related IP experience required (in-house or law firm)
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Proficient computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office programs such as Microsoft Outlook, Word and SharePoint and Excel
Detail and results oriented with excellent organizational and analytical skills
Ability to work independently while also being a strong collaborator
Ability to multi-task and work well independently as well as with a team.
Detail-oriented and able to identify and recommend improved solutions.
