GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY:
IRCO Immigration Legal Services (IRCO ILS) seeks to hire a full-time Immigration Attorney to be
an integral part of our team. The attorney will work on affirmative application-based
immigration matters to USCIS. IRCO ILS envisions a safe, welcoming, and inclusive Oregon for
immigrants and refugees. Our work is focused on creating more access to direct, application-
based and defensive immigration legal services that provides more security and stability to our
most vulnerable community members. In addition, IRCO ILS provides community outreach and
education (Know Your Rights). Please note: Applicants must live in the greater Portland metro
area or have immediate plans to relocate to this area. No relocation package is included.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Environment: Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment and meet tight
deadlines. Ability to also work with people experiencing trauma, conflict, and poverty.
Schedule:
The work schedule is mostly stable and does not fluctuate without prior notice. (2)

Job Responsibilities

  • Daily communications, correspondence, and meetings with clients, staff, and USCIS
  • Preparing and filing various affirmative immigration forms, including but not limited to
  • Adjustment of Status, Employment Authorization, Citizenship, VAWA, U, & T visas
  • Providing support to internal IRCO programs including RIFS (Refugee Immigrant Family
  • Strengthening and SAE (Services Against Exploitation)
  • Preparing and leading community education with IRCO staff and the community at
  • Collaboration with various partner agencies
  • Regular weekly visits to the office and post office
  • Assist with projects and other duties as assigned
  • Positions at this level have a regular need or ability to analyze problem or concepts or make decisions on the information. Have distinct impact on and influence on organization operations, program outcomes, revenue, expense or budgetary outcomes
  • Positions perform routine work with regular supervision and generally are given instructions or written procedures.
  • Positions occasionally encounter variation and are encouraged to suggest ways to respond, but can't take final action without approval

Requirements / Qualifications

  • Juris Doctorate from an ABA accredited law school

  • Licensure with the Oregon State Bar or another state bar (Preferred)

  • Experience in immigration law- minimum 2 years’ experience (Preferred)

  • Experience working with immigrant and refugee communities

  • Must be bilingual; fluent in another language other than English (Spanish preferred)

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and online legal research

  • Must be able to pass criminal history background check

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment; self-starting with a flexible growth mindset is a must!

  • Education: Law Degree (5)

  • Experience: 1-2 years of experience is required (3)

  • Licensure, Certification: Juris Doctorate

  • Computers: All positions at IRCO require use of a computer and experience working with Microsoft Products including but not limited to Microsoft 365, Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint.

  • Regular communication inside and outside the organization to exchange ideas and gather

  • Regular need to design and develop single program (work unit) functions and related processes

  • There is an occasional need to assess risk as well as to make determinations about tasks and

  • Positions at this level require minimal physical effort such as light lifting, carrying or movement,

  • Physical capability involves use of office or equipment where some agility and hand eye coordination is needed
