Position Overview

Based in Chicago, as a Director, Tax you will work with our expanding tax team and play a key role in achieving Company and investor tax objectives. Join a dynamic, growing company and experience a broad range of challenging issues primarily related to tax planning in the renewable energy industry.

The Director, Tax will provide guidance to a cross-functional finance team, various businesses, and Government Affairs. The role will be responsible for delivering high-value, comprehensive, accurate, and timely tax advice. Projects will include a mix of U.S. federal income tax and cross-border tax issues. This position will report directly to the Vice President of Tax.

Responsibilities
• Planning lead for key U.S. federal and cross-border tax issues
• Work closely with the Capital Markets team to evaluate and analyze tax impacts of complex financing transactions related to solar, wind, transmission, and energy storage projects in the U.S. and outside of the U.S.
• Review business transactions (including M&A) to identify tax implications and provide well-thought-out recommendations that account for Invenergy's tax attributes
• Manage relationships with outside tax advisors
• Stay current with changes in the tax law and develop guidance
• Analyze potential legislative changes and advise Government Affairs
• Manage special projects

Required Skills
• Must have a JD, LLM, or Master's Degree in Taxation
• Minimum of seven years of experience in business taxation in a multinational firm or professional firm
• Technical knowledge and experience in U.S. domestic and international tax law (including inbound and outbound taxation, relevant business tax planning, modeling, structuring, transfer pricing, partnerships, and tax treaties)
• Flexibility, ability, and desire to quickly learn new areas of the tax law as the business's needs and the law evolve
• Ability to explain complex tax concepts in a simple way
• Able to identify potential improvements and to propose workarounds and solutions
• Familiarity with project or corporate finance transactions
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability and desire to work effectively in a team environment
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment; Attentiveness to timeliness and tight deadlines
• Excellent written and oral communication skills

Preferred Skills
• Prior experience in the energy, power, real estate, or infrastructure space is a plus.
