WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR We need an Associate General Counsel for Marketing to join us at NIKE's World Headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon, and provide advertising legal support for the Marketing, Product and Innovation teams. The ideal candidate will be able to advise and counsel business leaders on consumer protection, advertising law, and other legal compliance matters that may impact marketing and advertising and consumer experiences. To be successful, you must be comfortable working cross-functionally and influencing different personalities and perspectives. The best lawyers are organized, flexible multitaskers with an ability to prioritize tasks and solve problems with a high degree of independence. WHAT WILL YOU WORK ON You will be responsible for handling a variety of legal projects for the organization. On any given day, you may be revising marketing copy for an innovative product, meeting with the business to review the latest brand campaign, drafting and negotiating commercial contracts in support of the Marketing organization, or driving a strategic project to enable the business to move faster. You will provide deal support and strategic counseling to business partners. You will be able to identify and address legal compliance issues related to the consumer experience, and you will be able to prepare and deliver trainings to enhance compliance with advertising laws. You'll work on a dynamic team in a fast-paced environment and engage with cross-functional teammates such as local in-country lawyers, privacy lawyers, government affairs and various business groups. WHO WILL YOU WORK WITH You will report to the Assistant General Counsel, Brand Marketing, and you will work closely with your colleagues in Brand Marketing Legal and Business Affairs, Product Compliance and Safety, Digital Product, and Global & NA Marketplace teams. You will provide legal support to the Brand Marketing team, where you will encounter business partners with a variety of communication styles and needs. People will appreciate your ability to be resourceful in the face of ambiguity and to find solutions. WHAT YOU BRING TO NIKE - Juris Doctorate degree - Member, in good standing, of at least one US State Bar and willingness to meet the requirements of membership in the Oregon State Bar through in-house counsel, reciprocity, or equivalent - Minimum of 3 years of experience in the practice of law with a significant focus on marketing, advertising, and consumer experiences - Substantive knowledge of laws related to consumer protection, advertising, and claims marketing - Proven experience representing corporations in commercial transactions and general business law - Excellent verbal and written skills and the ability to communicate effectively at all levels - Bias for action and ability to work independently within a multinational organization - Results driven; proven experience leading strategic projects - Law firm or Fortune 500 company experience and experience in a corporate legal department of a global marketer, consumer digital product, or entertainment organization is preferred - Experience advising on business practices and objectives in a global company is preferred - Proficient in related deal work and how specific contract clauses affect licensees, marketing campaigns and partnerships - Strong teammate and ability to work cross-functionally in a complex organizational structure - Sound risk assessment capabilities in rapidly evolving regulated areas - Demonstrated ability to learn business requirements quickly, analyze legal and commercial risks and propose creative, business solutions - Excellent judgement and organizational skills, with a proven ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and complete tasks accurately, on schedule and with minimal supervision - Flexibility and willingness to take on new tasks in new or unfamiliar areas of the law - International experience a plus - Previous NIKE work experience, especially with NIKE Legal tools (e.g., Contract Central, Legal Tracker), a plus - Willing to relocate to Portland, OR area Nike requires all applicants for this position to be vaccinated for COVID-19 as a condition of hire. Salary Range:
$100K -- $150K
Minimum Qualification
Legal & RegulatoryEstimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
