About Our Job

The District Attorney's Office for the 2nd Judicial District is currently recruiting a Senior Criminal Investigator to perform full performance level criminal investigation work.

The Mission of the Denver District Attorney's Office is to professionally and completely prosecute crimes and investigate potential crimes on behalf of the people of the State of Colorado, and in doing so, do justice, advocate for victims' rights and advise and consult in the deterrence and prevention of crime; to ensure the open, evenhanded and humane administration of justice. The office employs approximately 110 attorneys and 160 support staff, who are responsible for more than 6,000 felony and 12,000 misdemeanor prosecutions annually. The elected District Attorney is the chief law enforcement officer in the City and County of Denver, and is responsible for the prosecution of violations of Colorado State Laws. The current Denver District Attorney is Beth McCann.

This position requires certification as a Colorado Peace Officer (POST) at the time of application, and requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application. Please do not apply if you do not possess these certifications

The responsibilities for this position are as follows:
• Locates and interviews victims, witnesses, and suspects
• Investigate and assist in the prosecution of criminal cases
• Determines investigative techniques and case strategies; gathers, evaluates, and preserves evidence, analyzes the evidence, prepares spreadsheets or summary charts on financial or voluminous data, prepares diagrams and demonstrative evidence, photograph crime scenes and determines the presence or absence of criminal activity
• Prepares investigative reports with recommendations for future management of the case
• Organizes case strategies in conjunction with other law enforcement staff and applicable City agencies
• Prepares affidavits for arrest warrant, search warrants, and subpoenas, serves parties involved in legal action, and may prepare interrogatories, production requests, and answers in civil litigation
• Delivers testimony in the Grand Jury and/or court as an advisory witness.
• Other duties, as assigned
Any one position may not include all of the duties listed. However, the allocation of positions will be determined by the amount of time spent in performing the essential duties listed above.

About You

Our ideal candidate will have the following:
• 5+ Years of professional level experience conducting comprehensive investigations of complex criminal and civil cases
• Previous experience investigating white collar and/or organized crimes cases
We realize your time is valuable so please do not apply if you do not have at least the following required minimum qualifications:
• Education: Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice or a related field.
• Experience: Four (4) years of previous police experience, two (2) of which must be at the level of Criminal Investigator (e.g. Police Detective) or any equivalent combination of education and experience
• Licensure & Certification: Requires certification as a Colorado Peace Officer (POST) at the time of application, and requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application.
• Education/Experience Equivalency: One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school education. Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements
