Gensler is seeking a Corporate Counsel generalist to join its Legal Studio. The corporate counsel will report to the Senior Counsel, Corporate Legal. The position is located in our Los Angeles office and will provide global corporate legal support across the firm. The Corporate Counsel will work with the firm’s corporate legal team as a generalist with responsibilities in the areas of real estate, data governance and privacy, intellectual property, corporate governance, firm architectural licensure, employment, and vendor procurement.

This is a one-of-a-kind opportunity for a junior to mid-level lawyer, with a passion for understanding the business of design and a desire to work with creative leaders, to become part of the Gensler family. This is not a conventional, back-office, black-letter legal role; at Gensler you will be on the front-line, dealing with senior firm leadership on a daily basis, and partnering with them and your Legal Studio colleagues to navigate opportunities and challenges in an ever complex world. Job Responsibilities

  • Manage the firm’s data governance and privacy compliance program, ensuring the program meets legal and regulatory requirements and addresses areas of greatest risk to the firm.
  • Work together with data privacy stakeholders across the firm to manage development of policies, training and awareness-raising programs, and response plans.
  • Manage real estate portfolio lease matters and negotiation.
  • Draft, review and negotiate commercial agreements in the areas of data privacy, intellectual property, employment, vendor procurement and NDAs.
  • Advise on global architectural licensing and regulatory compliance.
  • Advise on corporate governance issues and compliance, including domestic and international subsidiaries.

Requirements / Qualifications

  • Active bar admission in California.

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in general corporate and commercial matters (in a law firm and/or corporate legal department).

  • Experience preferred in the areas of data privacy compliance (including CCPA and GDPR), data governance, and negotiating related commercial agreements.

  • Experience establishing and maintaining corporate entities, including Board and shareholder actions and meetings.

  • Specialized experience in the areas of workplace investigations or conducting due diligence is desired but not necessary.

  • Exceptional interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, including a demonstrated ability to work with various functions and levels within an organization.

  • Self-motivated, flexible, positive.
