Position description
The Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice (CRCJ) at The University of Texas at Arlington seeks to fill one tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor. The position will commence on September 1, 2023. The position is a nine-month, tenure-track appointment with the possibility of summer teaching. The salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Successful candidates are expected to demonstrate a commitment to diversity and equity in education through their scholarship, teaching, and/or service as well as a strong commitment to teaching, advising, and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students from diverse backgrounds.

Department and College/School Information
The Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice is housed within the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Texas at Arlington. The Department offers a Bachelor of Arts (BA) and minors in Law and Legal Studies (LLS) and Forensic Applications of Science and Technology (FAST). At the graduate level, the department offers two Master of Arts (MA) degrees. Successful candidates are expected to demonstrate a commitment to diversity and equity in education through their scholarship, teaching, and/or service as well as a strong commitment to teaching, advising, and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students from diverse backgrounds.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in criminology and criminal justice, expanding the knowledge base of the field by conducting research, and engaging in service to the department, university, and discipline. The standard teaching load is four courses per academic year (typically 2/2) for high-performing research faculty.
Required Qualifications A PhD in Criminology, Criminal Justice, Forensic Science, Biology, Chemistry, or related field is required. ABDs will be considered with an expected completion of their doctoral degree before June 1, 2023. Applicants with a JD alone will not be considered. Candidates must provide evidence of excellence in research, teaching, and service—as well as potential for, or record of, funded research activity.
Preferred Qualifications The area of specialization is open, but preference will be given to applicants with teaching and research background in Forensic Science (e.g., crime scene investigation and technology, forensic investigation techniques, digital forensics, biosocial criminology). Preferred applicants will have experience in lab-based courses, with the potential to teach courses offered via our minor in Forensic Science/Crime Scene Technology.
