Job Description

The legal operations team is seeking a real estate attorney to provide advice on transactional real estate matters focusing on the implementation of business and multifamily lending programs, grant and sub-grant programs; and asset management, including commercial loan servicing, program compliance, property transfers, workouts, and collateral dispositions. This individual will also be responsible for analyzing legislation, negotiating contracts for the organization, and assisting with commercial loan closings on an as-needed basis. The person in this position must possess the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Job Responsibilities

  • Interpret laws, regulations, guidelines, and procedures related to CHFA’s programs
  • Advise various business units and negotiate matters related to the implementation of new multifamily and business finance programs, including the development of program contracts and forms
  • Advise various business units; including our Commercial Development and Asset Management teams, and negotiate matters related to asset management, commercial loan servicing, program compliance, property transfers, workouts, and collateral dispositions
  • Negotiate and close commercial and multi-family real estate transactions
  • Review, draft and negotiate contracts and other legal documents relating to CHFA programs, services, technology and building maintenance
  • Analyze proposed and enacted legislation and its impact on CHFA operations and programs

Requirements / Qualifications

  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience working on real estate, corporate and/or contract matters in a law firm or corporate legal or compliance department; with a preference for candidates that have experience with affordable housing, housing tax credits and/or New Markets Tax Credits

  • Must possess a law degree and be admitted to the Colorado Bar

  • Candidates with diverse qualities and backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply

  • Knowledge of Colorado real estate law, real estate loans, commercial lending, business entities, real estate transactions including title related issues, and familiarity with related documents

  • Knowledge of general corporate structure and governance

  • Experience with and knowledge of accepted practices and procedures used in reviewing title work, surveys, zoning ordinances and insurance certificates and policies preferred

  • Ability to communicate, both orally and in writing, in an effective and diplomatic manner

  • Ability to establish rapport with persons of diverse ethnic, racial and cultural backgrounds essential

  • Strong legal research and writing skills with strong attention to detail
