Job Description

Responsible for handling an array of real estate matters to foster company growth and operations while minimizing company risk and ensuring compliance with laws, rules, regulations, and contractual arrangements.

Job Responsibilities

  • Negotiate contracts involving all aspects of real estate development and operations
  • Develop additional form contracts and documents, as necessary, to facilitate Kohl's strategic objectives
  • Oversee real estate closings, lease execution and legal issues relating to store construction and permitting
  • Negotiate amendments, settlements and related documentation concerning store and shopping center maintenance, regulations, and operations
  • Research and provide strategic legal advice concerning a broad range of questions and circumstances pertaining to real estate matters
  • Advise company personnel as to legal ramifications of past and proposed actions and formulating solutions to existing problems in an advantageous manner

Requirements / Qualifications

  • 2-4 years experience in private practice and/or corporate legal department with preferable emphasis in commercial real estate

  • Juris Doctor degree from accredited law school. Member of state bar or licensed by the state bar

  • Superior analytical ability, negotiation, and writing skills

  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills; ability to clearly translate legal concerns into lay terms and effectively communicate the legal conditions which affect business opportunities/operations and provide strategic alternatives to advance company pursuits

  • Preferred: Broad based knowledge on various legal issues involving Corporate transactions, Construction, Real Estate, Finance, and Facilities
