Founded by Richard Kahan as the first of the Urban Assembly schools, The Bronx School for Law, Government and Justice opened its doors in September 1997 to 64 ninth grade students. Our students have the unique opportunity to experience firsthand the inner workings of the legal system. In addition to law firms and members of the justice community helping to create the school's innovative curriculum, judges and lawyers also serve as teachers and mentors to the students. Today LGJ has grown into a 6-12 secondary school. We offer our middle and high school students the opportunity to realize their potential with the help and support provided in a small learning community.

The mission of The Bronx School for Law, Government and Justice (LGJ) is to ensure that students in grades 6-12 reach high standards of academic excellence by providing a rigorous curriculum that combines law-related studies with authentic, real–world learning experiences in a safe and nurturing environment. Students explore careers in legal and governmental fields through coursework, mentoring partnerships and related internships while preparing for the challenges of higher education.
