Job Description

Hunton Andrews Kurth LLP, an international law firm, is actively recruiting an Immigration Advisor in our San Francisco office. This position assists lawyers with management of client relationships, preparation of complex legal documents, technical legal research issues, and other senior-level case and client account management responsibilities related to the Immigration Practice. Trains less experienced paralegals and coordinates the delegation of work to paralegals and support staff.

Job Responsibilities

  • Assists attorneys in coordinating, leading and directing legal services to meet clients’ immigration needs. Develops and implements custom strategies and tools to promote efficient delivery of services, client satisfaction and positive outcomes
  • Manages the overall workload associated with particular clients and delegates matters to paralegals and support staff
  • Provides training and technical guidance to immigration team members and to clients. Assists in further development of the immigration team’s knowledge and skills
  • Serves as secondary client relationship manager, building, maintaining and advancing the relationships, with an emphasis on customer service
  • Assists team attorneys in providing assessments to clients. Determines options, risks, priorities and case strategies so clients can obtain immigrant and nonimmigrant status or visas for prospective and current employees. Provides international travel and visa processing guidance based on current laws, regulations and government policies
  • Prepares and provides custom reports to clients regarding all sponsored beneficiaries, cases completed or planned, and other metrics. Leads or assists with case status meetings with clients. Prepares client training materials or guides, and participates in Q&A sessions with clients and beneficiaries

Requirements / Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Paralegal or other professional certification relating to the Immigration legal practice area preferred

  • Minimum of five years of business immigration experience in a law firm is required; 8 years preferred

  • Must have at least three years of experience supervising and coordinating immigration paralegals and other support staff. Demonstrated competency with law firm systems for recording billable time, document management, and immigration database and practice management (INSZoom, Immigration Tracker, etc.)

  • Ability to work well under pressure, patience, diplomacy, high stress tolerance, excellent interpersonal communication skills, ability to prioritize workload and adapt to changing conditions
