The George Washington University Law School is celebrating its sesquicentennial anniversary this year and is the oldest law school in Washington DC. GW Law was established in 1865 as the Columbian College Department of Law and in those 150 years, GW Law has become a highly ranked and respected institution. The Law School is inviting applications for the position of Associate Dean for Student Affairs. This individual reports to the Sr. Associate Dean of Academic Affairs and directly manages several staff. We seek an experienced, flexible, and visionary leader with outstanding management and organizational skills to oversee the planning, administration and delivery of all student services through the Law School Office of Student Affairs; provide highly responsible and complex academic and administrative staff support to the Law School Dean; provides academic and student life advising to students in each division and cohort of the Law School's JD, full and part-time, and graduate programs; manages communications among and the dissemination of information to law students, faculty, and administrators, and liaison with University administration, including Student Disability Services, Student Health, and other relevant University departments.

Responsibilities Include:

• Provides leadership and is responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of department goals and operating procedures and policies pertaining to student affairs, programs, and activities.

• Establishes directs the Office of Student Affairs organizational structure to effectively accomplish department functions and recruit, employ, train, supervise and provide professional development support to department staff.

• Counsels and advises law students on a variety of academic and administrative matters including issues related to registration, examination, grading, academic progress, degree completion, academic awards, and bar administration.

• Administers and enforces the Law School's academic integrity standards to include meeting with students, investigating alleged violations and preparing for presentation to the Academic Integrity Committee, and implementing the Committee's decision.

• Provides sensitive and wise counsel to students on a wide array of personal issues affecting law school performance, handles emergency and crisis situations pertaining to students, and coordinates with mental health resources to ensure student well-being.

• Evaluates requests and works with Disability Support Services to ensure appropriate services and accommodations for students in need in compliance with the American with Disabilities Act.

• Coordinates with all aspects of the Law School community to ensure that students, particularly those who are struggling academically, receive support through tutoring, the Law School and University Writing Centers, and other available resources.

• Assists the Student Bar Association and student organizations with programming and policies and coordinates and oversees community-building initiatives.

• Represents the Law School at University, community and outside organization meetings and functions.

• Coordinates new student orientation programs; provides service to the Law School curriculum committee and Inns of Court program.
