Summary
This position is with the Justice Management Division, Facilities and Administrative Services Staff (FASS), Environmental and Sustainability Services. The incumbent serves as an Energy/Environmental Specialist with the responsibility for the Department of Justice's Energy/Environmental Management program. This includes compliance requirements established by Executive Orders, environmental law and regulations.

The duties and responsibilities of an Environmental Protection Specialist generally include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Serve as a technical advisor on Department-wide strategic energy initiative performance issues.
• Develop Strategic Implementation and Reporting Plan or leading Bureaus and Offices, Boards and Divisions (OBD) to implement and meet their established target goals.
• Conduct quarterly meetings with Bureaus and Executives to discuss energy goals and issues to ensure that the Department is on the right track to meeting policy, legislation, and Executive Orders.
• Coordinate with Bureaus to prepare annual energy report for the Department and submit to the Department of Energy.
• Work with Bureaus to improve Scorecard rating by staying proactive and engaging in developing projects and executing them to reduce energy usage in forms of electricity, gas, water, steam, etc.
• Work with Bureaus to promote renewable energy.

• You must be a United States Citizen or National.
• You will be required to complete a pre-employment security investigation and background check which includes a drug screening.
• You may be required to complete a one-year probationary or two-year trial period.
• Selective Service registration is required for males born on, or after, December 31st 1959. Those not registered should have an approved exemption on file.
• You must meet all eligibility requirements by the closing date of this announcement and continue to meet these requirements throughout the hiring process. Offers can be rescinded if requirements are not met.

Qualifications
To qualify for the position of Environmental Protection Specialist at (GS-0028-13/14), you must meet the basic qualification requirements listed below AND possess the required specialized experience specific to this series and grade you're applying to.
If you are a current or former government employee on a permanent appointment in the competitive service, you will need to demonstrate 1-year (52-weeks) at the next lower grade level, to meet the time-in-grade requirements for this occupational series and grade. Additionally, please ensure to submit an applicable SF50 (please refer to the "required documents" section for additional information).
QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
GS 13 Specialized Experience: One year of experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service which includes: 1) Applying energy or environmental protection principles, regulations, or laws; and 2) Using project management principles, methods, or tools to provide technical advice to leadership.
GS 14 Specialized Experience: One year of experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service which includes: 1) Applying energy or environmental protection principles, regulations, or laws; 2) Ensuring projects or goals are incompliance with applicable legal standards; and 3) Using project management tools, principles, or methods to advise management.
